At the vocational school students acquire academic training and expertise for their chosen area of specialization. Students are taught using a dual system that incorporates several subjects and methods of learning. Alongside education in vocational training, the students also receive a general education in fields like German, Social Studies, Economics, Athletics, and Ethics. Depending on the profession, vocational training takes place either in blocks, which are split up based on weeks or based on certain days of the week. Students are relieved from any work for attendance at school, which is mandatory. Report cards are issued yearly. Graduation is allowed only after successful completion of final examinations. After successfully completing these steps, students are awarded their diplomas. Students who meet specific requirements can also qualify for a Certificate of Secondary Education or a General Certificate of Secondary Education.
